On Monday we had the longest and shortest most pointless appointment ever. Apparently my OB’s office double booked people at the same time as my appointment so we got to wait for a solid hour before we got to see the doctor. I felt bad because Jimmy came to this one. I guess traditionally this would be where they go over my lab results and screening results but my Dr. is very high-tech and secure messages me all the results as soon as she gets them so I already knew. We did get to hear the heartbeat for a minute. “Nice and strong and fast.” My Dr. found the heartbeat immediately – I had read stories of people not being able to find it this early – so it was nice to hear it immediately. Also, this showed me baby is much higher in my stomach area than I thought he/she was. That’s great news because that is where I am seeing a bump that I was praying wasn’t just from carb consumption.

Lesson Learned: Always schedule a morning appointment. Preferably the first appointment of the day. Otherwise, bring your kindle and leave the husband; you might be waiting a long time.

One thing that further confused me, I asked when the first trimester officially ends, and my Dr. said “you’re done. 13 weeks.” Hold the phone. Some sources say 12 weeks, some say 13, some say after 13. So maybe we’re done with the first trimester? To be safe, I’ll say we are after this week.

After the appointment, Jimmy and I kept up our post-baby-appointment tradition of going to Pita Pouch for a delicious lunch. Yum. Although I didn’t like the humus last time I went, that was new.

Lesson Learned: Taste buds change during pregnancy – actually they change throughout pregnancy. Similar to fashion, what was in today could be out tomorrow.

The rest of the week was pretty uneventful. Jimmy played some lacrosse games, I watched a lot of Netflix and Amazon Prime – Amazon Prime has HBO shows, I discovered this last weekend. We did go to some friends’ house for dinner Friday night. They have a two year old so it was great to talk with some of the few parent friends we have.

On Sunday Jimmy flew out to Chicago for a work conference. He will be there until Wednesday.

Questionnaire:

How far along? 13 Weeks

How big is baby? The size of a small peach

Total weight gain/loss:  +1 lb from last week so -3 lbs overall

Maternity clothes? No, but I don’t have pants or shorts (other than one pair of jean cutoffs that have american flag pockets) that fit. I’m starting to get tired of the five loose dresses I have. Also I’m starting to notice a little bump so I might be in maternity wear sooner than I thought.

Sleep: Hit or miss depending on the night. I am no longer waking up in the middle of the night coughing with a terrible tickle in my throat now that I started taking a Claritin before bed. I used to take an allergy pill starting August-November and then March-June but did start up this August. Then the terrible tickle and coughing spits in the middle of the night made me remember I do have seasonal (weird seasonal) allergies. Claritin got my OB approval.

Best moment this week: Hearing the heartbeat with Jimmy

Movement: I swear I feel flutters.

Food cravings: cereal & chocolate ice cream specifically Edy’s Slow Churned Chocolate ice cream (not together although that could be good), also still liking soups and finally enjoying some fruits, oh and I cannot get enough plain water

Food Aversions: meats & vegetables

Gender: This week we’ll say boy

Labor Signs: N/A

Pregnancy Symptoms: ACNE! Still nauseous and vomiting and tired.

Belly Button in or out? In.

What I miss: 99% of my wardrobe, Plaka Grill salad with feta cheese <– the only thing I currently want to eat

What I am looking forward to: being in the second trimester.
Dear 2nd trimester,
I hear magical things about you so please don’t disappoint.
xoxo,
Ingrid

Upcoming appointments/events:  some sort of prenatal test 8/31

Weekly Wisdom: The official end of the first trimester is a mystery.

Milestones: Baby’s got fingerprints now and vocal cords
